Ryan Cavanaugh hails originally from North Carolina. His first appearances, as a child, were on Mt Airy’s WPAQ radio and with Doc Watson, Doug Dillard, and John McEuen. Under the wings of jazz sax man Bill Evans, he developed a technical approach and songwriting craft entirely his own. Recommended by jazz guitarist John McLaughlin and Béla Fleck, Cavanaugh has spent the past nine years touring nationally and internationally in the acclaimed saxophonist Bill Evans’s Soulgrass band. Cavanaugh has recorded and performed with Sam Bush, Béla Fleck, John Popper, Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers, Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, and many others. Cavanaugh has taken first place in banjo contests at RockyGrass, MerleFest, FiddleFest and Renofest.
