Hilary Hawke
Clawhammer banjo, Three-finger banjo

Originally from upstate New York and based in NYC for the past 18 years, Hilary Hawke is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, banjoist, vocalist, composer, and teacher. With a warmth and energy she steps onto stage with creative and versatile banjo playing in both the North American old-time and bluegrass styles. She’s devoted herself to performing american traditional music but also brings her love of all types of music into collaboration, outreach, teaching, and has an active private studio of students.

Hilary’s debut instrumental album, Lilygild, was released in 2023, and she is eagerly anticipating the spring 2025 release of her new album of original music as well as more touring with the Hilary Hawke Band. Hilary was the banjoist for the Tony Award- winning revival of Oklahoma! on Broadway, as well as being a banjo/guitar sub for Sufjan Stevens, Illinoise, the Avett Brothers’ Swept Away musical, among numerous other productions. Hilary is also a member of the crossover Irish-Americana band, The Brigideens, where she collaborates with renowned fiddler Eileen Ivers. Beyond her performance career, Hilary is the producer, engineer, and host of the growing podcast Banjo Chat, which highlights high-level banjo players who are both inspiring and unique. Hilary is excited to be teaching and performing at the 2025 Banjo Camp North for the first time!
