Sharon Gilchrist

Sharon Gilchrist is a native Texan who was raised performing at
bluegrass festivals across the U.S. A multi-instrumentalist on mandolin
and upright bass, she has performed and recorded with many of the
pioneering legends of bluegrass including the Peter Rowan and Tony Rice
Quartet, Darol Anger, as part the Harmonic Tone Revealer acoustic trio
with John Reischman and Scott Nygaard, Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands,
the Kathy Kallick band and many others.

Sharon has taught mandolin privately and at music camps around the
nation for nearly twenty years. Her teaching approach combines both her
rural roots music experience with skills learned through formal music
education. Sharon excels in breaking down and articulating fundamental
technique and improvisation concepts making them easily understood and
applied. Classes are taught by ear followed up with written out examples
of the material presented. She offers two courses available on line at Beginning Mandolin
and Intermediate Bluegrass Mandolin. While being rooted in a traditional
genre such as bluegrass, Sharon is best known for bringing a unique
voice to the tradition. This is the skill she shares with students –
immersion in the fundamentals of a traditional music to a point players
can begin using them with their own voice.
